How to delete/reduce background noise in video???

Calling ALL Experts......

I have 2 problems, and desperate for help....

1. I am doing a Home Video production for a function wherein I was the chief cameraman. A girl wanted to give a Condolence message, so I took her to a corner of the room and she gave her speech. Later when I was doing the Editing and Mixing, I found to my dismay, her speech was drowned out by the noise of all the guests. I tried everything possible to reduce the background noise, but it did not work. Then I tired to atleast get the speech on paper and then put it as subtitles, but still the background noise is too loud to get the words. So, experts, is there anything I can do to reduce the background noise and get the words of the speech???

2. I am capturing video from the camcorder and saving on the Hard Disk as .AVI file. I am using MGI VideoWave 5 for Editing and Mixing. I have captured from the camera in PAL and saved as .AVI. I open this file in MGI and do the editing. After that, I save the file in MPEG, but MGI does the conversion in NTSC(by default) and the output is TERRIBLE!!! I tried the conversion from .AVI to .MPEG in TMPEGEnc Plus, and the result was good. Is there any way I could increase quality in MGI??? My camera is PAL and I have captured onto the Hard Disk in PAL, but MGI is converting to NTSC..... If anybody has used MGI VideoWave 5, what are the best settings for PAL...??? (for making VCD's/SVCD's)

Thanks in Advance

Point 1. This is really an Audio problem and I'm no expert in that area. You will need to demux the movie file and then play with the Audio file to improve the quality your looking for. Personally, I doubt very much that can be done. All I can suggest is have a look at Sound Forge 6 and then post this question in the Audio section.

Point 2. I would suggest you convert your PAL AVI to SVCD using DVD2SVCD with CCE and not TMPGenc for best results. Then use MPEG2VCD to do all the editing you want on the MPG2 file.

Thanks for the quick response

I have downloaded DVD2SVCD and CCE, but could not find MPEG2VCD. I searched but could not find it........ could you give the link and the crack(if any)???

Also, will this MPEG2VCD do Merging, Mixing, Transitions, Visual Effects etc....?? Because right now I am using MGI which is a damn good package for Visual Effects. If I am going to switch to MPEG2VCD, I need to know if I can do Visual Effects Editing in it.

Thanks in Advance

The only way to reduce the background noise is using a low pass filter or an high precision equalizer to reduce those frequencies that disturb. I cant guarantee you will hear what you need, but that's the only way IMHO ;)

Confused......

Alright, I have downloaded all the required software, but am still confused  as to which program I have to use for what...... Let me explain what I am going to do......

1. I have already captured in PAL from the video camcorder and saved on the Hard Disk as .AVI (about 35 small video clips which later has to be merged)

2. I am now adding Visual Effects in MGI and saving the small clips in .AVI (Uncompressed).

Now, what are the best programs I SHOULD use for encoding and putting that .AVI onto a CD??? There are lots of different programs, and I forgot which program I have to use to do what.... Based on the programs you tell me, I will check the Tutorials for further instructions.

Thanks.

Confused Boy......

Problem again.....

To LTR12101B.... will try that out

To ChickenMan,
For testing purposes, I converted a small .AVI clip to SVCD in DVD2SVCD and got about 11 files in the default folder. I installed VCDEasy and according to your Tutorials "How to backup your DVD's to SVCD" , you said in point 2. a) quote "Now click on Add Files button and load in the bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg file for your first CD. It will check through the file for SVCD compliance." unquote. But unfortunately, there is no such file (see attached pic) in the default folder. Where did I go wrong???

I am using Software....

1. DVD2SVCD 1.0.9 Build 3
2. Cinema Craft Encoder 2.66 sp Beta (the one posted by MB1. I don't know if he already cracked it, but I certainly did not crack it)
3. VCDEasy 1.1.2

Computer using...

Pentium 4 1.4
256 MB RAM
Windows XP (SP1 not yet installed)

Also, when I play AviSynth_Script_file_avs-vfapi.avi (see attached pic) in Media Player, it plays well(Audio & Video). But when I delete all the other files in the default folder, there is only Audio and NO Video!!! I know I am doing something wrong.

ChickenMan, what am I doing wrong??

Thanks!!

first off version 2.66 will not work with dvd2svcd ,only 2.50 will work with DVD2SVCD, and in my opinion the 2.50 version is substandard compared to the other versions, I think your best bet since you are useing segmented AVI files (a bunch of little files) is NOT to use DVD2SVCD, but use Virtual Dub to frame serve all the avi files in the order you want them joined, to CCE 2.64 or 2.66, then you will have one big mpeg file instead of a bunch of files that have to be joined, and the quality will be a bit better than with the 2.50 version, just remember to set the Correct SVCD resolution in Virtual dub for frame serveing...

File is too big.....

I have a bunch of .AVI (uncompressed) files wherein the quality is good. A 4 minute clip is about 1.8 GB and if I join more .AVI (uncompressed) clips, I am getting an error in Media Player and also the Audio is not syncronised with the Video as the file is HUGE.

I want to join about 4 clips of Video(uncompressed AVI) and then add the Audio to it. I am using MGI VideoWave to do this, but MGI is converting to NTSC. I would like to "spread" the audio across the entire 4 clips, instead of adding audio to each clip and then joining.

I have about 30 small clips of uncompressed AVI files. I have added Audio to clips which are 5 minutes and less in length. But there are about 8 clips which need to be merged and then Audio added(In MGI if I am saving in uncompressed AVI, then there is no problem with PAL and NTSC. But if I am saving in MPEG, then it is converting from PAL to NTSC). After adding the Audio(in MGI), I need to merge ALL clips and make 1 file for burning. Any ideas????

Minion, can you give me the settings for CCE 2.5 and VirtualDub??

Thanks.

Actually I can"t help you much there cuz I rarely ever use "Virtual Dub" as a Frame server, I usually use AVISync and I don"t work with AVI files often ,usually mpeg or VOB files..But I know you got to set up the "Virtual Dub" frame server, by clicking the "Auxsetup.exe" file in the V-Dub folder, then after setting up the Frame server, you have to Load your files as segmented AVI files then start the frame server and save a VDR frame server file, then load that file into CCE 250 or 2.64.01.10, or 2.66, and encode it like normal, I think you have to keep the frame server running while encodeing....Sorry I can"t help you much here cuz This isn"t exactly mY field of expertize...I think there are some good Tut"s at Vcdhelp.com and even at the V-Dub site on how to use the V-dub frame server.....good luck.......

No where in my Tutorial do I say use anything other than CCE ver 2.50, thats what your doing wrong. Get the right software and it will work.

Also, if you want to join all those small AVI's together, load the first one into VirtualDUB, then in File / Append AVI sgment... load in the 2nd AVI, then click it again and load in 3rd. Keep doing this untill all AVI's are loaded in. You MUST load them in in the correct order as you cannot change that later. If you now now that the total lengh is say 30min and you want to add 30min of Audio, click Audio tab, and then WAV Audio and load the WAV file in. Set Audio to Full Processing mode and set Video to Diesct Stream Copy. Then go to File and hit Save AVI, give a name and sit back for a few minutes. You will now have one large AVI with the audio you selected.

Now load this AVI into DVD2SVCD and make sure your using CCE 2.50 and it will then convert to either an MPG ot to a Cue/Bin file depending if you want to make an Image or not.

SVCD resolution too long in size

To Minion..... Thanks, I will try your suggestion if all else fails....

To ChickenMan..... Yes, you mentioned about 2.50, but I used the CCE 2.66 beta because I thought the higher the version the better quality you will get. But anyway, I installed the 2.50 version and I must say the quality is damn good, but I am not too happy with the resolution. I have merged some photos in the clips and SVCD resolution is kinda crazy. It make the screen look very long(like a coffin box). The photos are "compressed" at the sides and the height is very long which makes the photos very very ugly to look at. Whoever made this resolution a standard format, must be crazy. The resolution for DVD and VCD are kinda "square" and very nice to look at. But the resolution for SVCD is "rectangle".... not at all good.

So, I am now using DVD2SVCD to convert to VCD....... and the output file is Movie File(MPEG)....... but when played in Media Player, it hangs....... I played the bbmpeg_muxed_file00.mpg in Media Player, Nero and MGI, and in all the players the movie freezes after 3 seconds of play...... What is going on???

My settings in DVD2AVI.......... (it has now changed to AVI2VCD since I am encoding in VCD because I don't like the SVCD resolution):

1. Audio Tab
a) Audio1 bitrate.. 160
b) Audio1 downsample (checked)

2. Frameserver Tab
a) Resize Method.... BicubicResize
b) Resize to.... VCD(352x240/288)

3. Bitrate Tab
Cd size changed to 800 for all

4. Encoder Tab
a) Cinema Craft Encoder
b) Multipass VBR..... 4

5. CD Image Tab
Don't make Images (selected)

6. Misc Tab
a) Don't delete any files (checked)
b) Process priority..... High
c) DVD2SVCD level...... Advanced
d) Input file type..... AVI
e) Output file type.... MPEG-1

These are my settings. The bbmpeg_muxed_file00.mpg movie freezes after 3 seconds of play. Please help ChickenMan.

Another thing, if I join ALL the AVI clips in VirtualDub and get one huge AVI file, wouldn't it be more than the 2 GB limit for AVI files??

I may be a Systems Administrator for 3 years, but I don't know a damn thing about Audio and Video........ not a thing.

ChickenMan thanks for your time.....

Again, for the second time, read the tutorial. I do mention that DVD2SVCD does have problems at times getting the Aspect Ration of AVI conversion correct. Thats why I put the actual formula at the botton in one of the notes to work it out and how to do it. That all the problem is making your SVCD's.

Also trying to use DVD2SVCD to make a VCD, unless you load in MY VCD.ini file as I posted in the DVD to VCD using DVD2SVCD Tutorial, you will not get a VCD. Just about every setting is wrong as you list above. I cannot stress any more than to read the tutorial and follow it, it does work. If you want to change all the settings or use CCE for VCD, then go your hardest, you just WILL NEVER make a VCD.

As for joining all the AVI together, yes you may excede the 2 gig limit, you have not mentioned how big the original files are, just 30 small AVI's. If it will exceed the 2 gig file size, then in Video tab, set to Full Processing Mode and then go into Compression. I'd suggest to use the DivX codec to compress and set bit rate to about 1500. Then Save AVI and you will not exceed the 2 gig limit.

Back to SVCD....

Thanks for your reply...... I have switched back to SVCD.

I am now using DVD2SVCD and editing the scripting file and making the resolution to 480x352. This resolution looks much better, but Nero doesn't like it. Anyway, I am doing a test burn and will let you know the results. Thanks!!

The original uncompressed .AVI file is about 1.8 GB for 5 minutes of Video. I have about 4 files that size. And I will join them, as you mentioned, in VirtualDUB. Tell me, if I compress using DivX codec, will there be any alterations done?? Also, how do I add the DivX Codec in VirtualDUB?? If you can give me the settings for the DivX Codec compression, I would be very very very happy.

Thanks!!!

Just install DivX 5.02 Pro codec. You enter your serial number only when your about to use it (like in VD) to encode. Once installed, VD will see it.

Resolution still not good........

I burned a test CD yesterday where the Video clips had resolutions of 480x352. It looked very good on the Computer, but on the T.V it looked hopeless. There was a "strip" of video across the screen!!! It was like a 70 mm movie (Cinemascope). Anyway, I will try the old resolution and see if it works!!! I'll figure it out myself. Thanks for your help!!!

Actually, I installed Divx Pro 5.02 sometime back and even entered the activation code too. But to be on the safe side, I installed it again and ran the Register DivX Pro.exe and re-activated the code. But still I can not access DivX Codec from VirtualDUB (see attached pic). Please explain how to do this???

Thanks!!!

First SVCD Recorded

I have finally made my first SVCD!!! I have used the default resolution for SVCD and it looks damn great on the TV. I must say I am really impressed by the results. Thanks a lot ChickenMan.

Well, I must also say that I wasn't able to sort out the background noise. I have just joined doom9.org and I hope to get some tips from there too. Anyway, I can not do much about the noise now as I am well behind schedule. For now I will just let it be like that and record it on CD2. Maybe when my next assignment comes up (due 2 weeks from now), I hope to be fully prepared.

Thanks ChickenMan for all the help.

doom9 is an excellent site, you can lean a lot from there. While you are there d/l DivX 3.11 Codec and install it also, never had a problem with that one.

Help again ChickenMan!!!

I have converted 2 avi clips in DVD2SVCD and got 2 files with extensions (MPEG). I tried a test burn in Nero and it froze. Everytime I Enable the Menu, it freezes up. If I don't enable Menu, it works fine, but when I enable Menu, it freezes. I have about 256 MB Ram on P4 1.4 GHz and about 6 GB free space.

I HAVE to put a Menu on the CD and I kinda like Nero's Menu interface. Please tell me why it freezes up only when I enable the Menu, and if anything can be done about it??? If nothing can be done about it, is there any other CD Burning software with a Menu facility as easy as Nero???? I need to burn SVCD CD's from files such as (MPEG) and not cue or bin files..........

Thanks in Advance.
