How to convert avi to dvd format and vcd format? (fasted method )

Hi guys

i have two questions.

I have two avi files, both 1 hour long, would like to know which software can i use (something that will not take months) to join the files (that only if i need to), and convert them into dvd format to burn in a dvd.

I also would like to know how to the above but in vcd format.

thanks in advance
dave

Fastest way to join 2 AVI's is with AVISynth, it only takes 5secs or so.

Part1 = avisource("part1.avi")
Part2 = avisource("part2.avi")
return Part1+Part2

i am trying join 2 harry potter movies with virtualdub but when i select the second files it throws a error message saying 'cannot append segment: the audio streams have different sampling rates (18940.00000 v 20253.00000 )
You expects have a remedy for this? i did try ignoring it but it only saved the first part.

thanks in advance

I have managed to join harry potter and lord of the rings. Ive converted lord of the rings using the above chickenman guide using DVD2SVD software. The audio seems to have gone out of sync. Which software/procedure would be best to fiz this at this stage please?

thanks in advance

dave

Sync problems are very common in these conversions. There are different ways to handle them requiring different amounts of effort. The easiest way is NOT to join the parts at all. Rather, convert each separately to fill 1/2 of a DVD. Then when you author the disc, put both pieces on back-to-back.

A second method is to rip the audio from each segment before they are joined (use VirtualDub), then use an audio editor to join them (like GoldWave or SoundForge). If you need to pad or chop audio to make the sync work, you know where the splice was and have the right tool.

hi aybesea

I would have probably converted them separately, but as far as i am aware TMPGEnc only allow one file to be opened? im i correct in saying? and i dont know of any other software that will accept more than one files.

Since it took me 6 hours to convert this movie, is there a way i can fix this audio problem at this stage or not? Did this audio sync problem only accur due to joining the movies?

thanks
dave

Where exactly does the audio go out of sync ? At the join ? Is it out by a constant amount or does it get out progressively getting worse near the end of the movie ?

There is a tute explaining how to fix both types of a/v sync problems.

TMPGenc DVD Author, DVDLab and Meastro (I'm sure others) will let you import 2 or more movie streams.

@tommy and others

you stated in ur above email that you converted Daredevil succesfully.
I tried to convert this movie too today, its named dvl-dd.avi. But it throws a error message when cinema craft opens up 'cinema craft encoder sp : cctsp -application error ' The instruction at 0x000000069 referenced memory at 0x000000069. The memory could not be read.'

I wonder if you got that or anybody know why this occurs and ifso how did u rectify it? and also what other way i could try to convert this movie to DVD.
thanks

Hi Dave25

Sorry, No error messages when I converted the movie, the only time that I have ever had a memory dump, my PC has crashed and re-started, I looked all oer the net for a solution for the memory dump and found that all sorts of things could ba causing it, the only remedy that i found was to replace my memory.

I`m sure that some knowledgeable person on this forum will be able to give you more help than I can.

I just wanted to know if I could get a link or a popular title of a joiner. I need one of thoses. One that actually works. I tried to join a movie together [The Butterfly Effect - TMD] and it didn't work when I tried to convert it to Mpeg-2.

Could you give me some advice or something?

Thanks.
