How to Burn subtitles using DVD2SVCD? *help plz*

Hi guy

I wanted to know whats the procedure to encode/include subtitles in a movie using DVD2SVCD. I have actually done one successfully but the subtitles were there permanently which i didnt quite like. Is there a way to do this but also have a option to switch subtitles on and off? ifso please let me know.

thanks in advance

What are you making with DVD2SVCD, VCD's, SVCD's or DVD's ?

If VCD's you have no option other than permanent. If SVCD, in the Subtitle tab, click on SVCD Subtitles (not the Permanent option) but not all DVD Players suport SVCD with subtitles, so you will need to do a test run to check. If DVDR's, just select DVD Subtitles.

thanks chickenman, they are for DVDR's. Do i need to do anything in the coversation tab - go and include subs?
I know you don't usually leave anything out but just want to make sure.

thanks mate

No, just select the Sub language you want in the Subtitle tab and tick on DVD Subtitles. When the screen comes up to select the actual Sub stream, make sure there is something actually something there. If black, click the bottom right corner buttong "Search all Subs" or somthing similar (cant remember !) until it actually finds them all. You normally need to do this if you want the Alien or foriegn lang subs. as they are few and not normally at the start. Nothing to do in the Conversion tab.

just done what you told me to do. i clicked on rip subtitles and then dvd subtitles and selected english as first lang subs. No windows popped up in the whole process and i have no subs. I must have missed something. I am supposed to place the sub file in the folder where the movie was being encoded?

Arr... is this an AVI your encoding or a DVD to DVDR ? If an AVI then there are no subs in an AVI and have to be included as a separate file if you have them. Do that through the Add External Subtitle file when you click the Go or green arrow button.

yes it is avi file. do i still need to click on rip subs in the subtitle column aswell? and will be subs be permanently on or switchable?

thanks

dave

A few basic rules of DVD2SVCD. If you want to include Subtitles (from any source) you activate Subtitles. If you want them Permanebt then select Permanent, if you want them Selectable then select DVD Subtitles. The best way to find these things out is to actuially do/trial them.
