how i author dvd movies

these are the two methods i use to copy dvd movies to dvd-r 4.7 gb.

1. if the original movie is less than or equal to 4.7 gb then i first rip the movie to hdd using either smart ripper or dvd decrypter and then use ifoedit to remove all restrictions and then burn the vob's using nero 5590.

2. if the original movie is more than 4.7 gb then first i rip the movie to hdd using either smart ripper or dvd decrypter and then use dvd2avi to frameserve which creates two files one is *.d2v and another *.ac3 file. I first convert the ac3 file to mp2 using headac3he and then use TMPGenc to re-encode the vob (using the d2v file to frameserve) using a bitrate of about 3500 to 4000
so that the max mpg file is about 4 gb. then i use TMPGenc to multiplex the mpg and mp2 file and then use ulead dvd workshop 1.2 to create vob's and burn the dvd. ( i am getting pretty good results)

but i have the foll problems for which i need solutions :
1. i want to keep the ac3 track with my mpg files . I can multiplex the ac3 track from dvd2avi to my re encoded mpg file but when i use ulead dvd workshop it converts the ac3 track back to mp2. i tried to use nero 5590 to burn but it gave me a error that my source file is greater than 1 gb so i cannot create a iso dvd film

Sorry I can't help with TMPGenc as I don't use it.

If you are wanting to keeep the ac3 tracks then I recommend that you get DVDMaestro. It is very powerful but pretty easy to use.

Also you might want to consider using CCE for encoding as it very fast and gives excellent quality.

Using the above software I can usually fit 2 films onto 1 DVD-R or also rip the animated menus and create a DVD which plays almost identical to the original DVD.

If you do decide to try the above programs you might also want to download SubRip 1.03, Chapter Xtractor, VFAPI Conv and VOBrator as I doubt you'll be content with just ripping the film & audio.
