I bought a liteon 52x burner. This is my first time using the brand and I decided to give it a try. I've had it a month now and at first I was having some media problems but after the firmware upgrade there are no problems at all. I'm not a gamer so I can't tell you how it does on cd safeguards. I just bought it for the speed. It burns all my music, vcd's,divx, and data without a hitch. It hasn't made a coaster. Plus I don't think the drive reached it's full potential yet. I don't have any 52x media so, I think that the drive can still do better.

I have my second lity now --> 48126s@52246s

and my first Ltr12102b is still alive and works like a charm.

What is it with 52x ??
Save a few seconds, but more risk

Though apparently - I forget where I read it, there's a non-critical extraction glitch with the Meditek "5" chipset (max 48x) that is not present in the "6" (max 52x)

Liteons are that rare drive, cheap AND good - maybe the plexys and Yamaha's beat them for robustness - and the Yamaha for tricks like Audiomaster and T@2 - but a good many Liteon rebranders can't be wrong.

yep Liteon ROX .. best burner I have had .. mine 24x works well .. not one coaster yet .. had it for 6 months now ...burnt over 300 cd's

I have a LiteOn 40125S, Plex 8432, and a Yamaha 4416.

The Yamaha is in my mother's computer now (too slow for me ;)).

The Plex rarely gets used anymore (a LiteOn DVD-RW will replace it).

The LiteOn just keeps on burning and burning! After about 800+ burns, only 1 coaster!

The LiteOns may not have the fit and refinement of a Plex or Yammie, but it sure does great burns!

thanks everybody for the replies

thanks everybody for the replies looks like i am getting a liteon tomorrow

thanks again

Are the latest Asus burners any good as far as using CloneCD and Alcohol 120% go, ie safedisc 2+ and SecuROM.

ps. Samsung are not up to the task.

I'm using Asus CRW-4012A, it can deal with SD2.8x & Securom4.x by using Alcohol 1.4. This burner can makes perfect 1:1 CDs. It's very quiet during high speed R/W, and also can read protect vcd & audio cd (Firmware 1.01). It's good choice for me !

Thanks Kevin 1288, I will take the old Samsunger out and replace with a new Asus and burn a few backups that work!!

Regards.
