How Do You Insert Subtitles?

I downloaded a movie that is in Spanish and I want to get English subtitles for it. There is a subfolder included in the download called "Subtitles". In that folder is a *.rar file and *.sfv file. When I extract the rar files I get a *.idx file and a *.sub file.

How do I get this subtitle data integrated into the movie that is in Spanish now?

Thanks,

Ed

If you want the subtitles permanently in your movie then you have to re-encode the movie with subtitles.

Would it be possible to give me an idea on how this is done, or point me in the direction necessary to gather this knowledge?

I really don't care if the subtitles are permanently in the movie. I just want to watch it once, with subtitles, and then delete the entire film.

You need something like the program vobsub. If the *.sub files have the exact same name as the movie files then it is loaded automaticly (else you have to rename the sub).

You can find it here

Hi:

Thanks guys.

Well, I got it. The movie now plays with subtitles. It took some tinkering. What finally got it for me was something I did with the vobsub program. It added an extra extension to the .sub file and then when I ran it, it worked.

The bplayer program is very nice.

Just in case you guys like discussing this subtitles topic, I got another question for you. I have another movie that is in English with what looks like Swedish subtitles. Is there a way of getting those titles out since it is already in spoken English?

This movie is not an .avi but an SVCD movie which I am running off the .mpg file.
