How do I merge AVI files from the internet

I have downloaded some AVI files from the internet. Each file consists of several smaller parts. The parts have the same name so I couldn´t download them to the same folder. Only the first part of each file is playable on my system. The others come up with an errormessage if I try to play them.
Now how do I merge the parts to one playable file?

Are all the parts belonging to the one movie? If so, you can join them in VirtualDUB (_http://www.virtualdub.org/index)

Run VirtualDUB, load in first file. Then go to File & Append AVI Segment... and load in 2nd AVI. Do the same for 3rd or more pieces. In Video Tab, set to Direct Stream Copy. Set the same in the Audio Tab. Then go to File & Save AVI... Give a new name for the file and hit SAVE, Soon you will have a playable AVI of all the parts combined.

Hi ChickenMan!

I´ve just tried what you suggested. When I load the first file I get this Warning:
Virtualdub has reconstructed the index for this file, but you have not specified rekeying in the extended open options dialog. Seeking in this file may be slow.
When I load the second file I get either this errormessage: Invalid AVI file: Not a Riff file
or this errormessage:
Cannot determine file type of "D:\.........avi.avi"

I´m rather sure that none of the files is corrupt so what have I done wrong?

Greetings Flemming

Get yourself a copy of DivFix (just do a seach for it on this forum), and to each file (best is on a backup file in case something goes wrong) strip the Index and then Re-build the index. Then try merging them again with VirtualDUB.

DivxFix can caurse erros

hey there,i was readin the posts and saw that u suggested DixFix....plz be careful with this program as it can leave u with 2 corrupted files or even just not cut the second file leaving the original file not playable.....may i suggest u make a copy of the avi u want to run in divxfix and use that so ur original file is left untouched......or.....may i also suggest using Virtual Dub to fix the avi......i will try and explain it for ya.....

Open Virtual Dub and select File/open Video File and select the broken avi...a window may pop up tellin u it is reconstructing the index...after this is done....goto the Video Tab and select "Direct Stream Copy",now goto the Audio tab and do the same...select "direct stream copy"then goto File/save AVI,name it and happy dayz...in a few short mins u will have a file that now has a index and therefor making it playable.....good luck and hope this helps u out.....THANKU4urtime....Aaron....
