How do i install the 1.09 firmware for AO6!!??

I don't have a 106 but it seems just like the old days when all firmware had to be installed from dos.

As it say's reboot to a dos prompt then type the path to the .exe file, ie. c:/windows/........exe

Just remember you can only have 8+3 characters via dos.

If you get stuck, post the full path to the .exe file, and I'm sure someone will help.

Yeah, I'd like to know too.

I have a Pioneer dvd burner 106 and I know it has some erasing problems erasing dvdr's . And it doesn't support Primo DVD yet.

Does this new firmware help it with this ?

And did you find out what you wanted to know DVD ?

Reboot to DOS- Mode or DOS Prompt, must use the DOS driver installed by ATAPI307.EXE. This can be downloaded from the utilities area.

thats what it says on the website, i cant find the utilities section on that website , DOS driver!!?? whats that!!?? and ATAPI307 !!! whats that
also do i just go to accessories and open c prompt or do i need to boot from a 98 start up disc , but im running XP, will a 98 boot up disc work on XP

don't think you need that anyway.

see the readme file inside the a106v106.exe package...

ATAPI DVD-106 FIRMWARE UPGRADE 1.09
PROCEDURE
1. Connect Pioneer DVD-ROM drive on the Secondary IDE Port with the drive set as Master (MA). Pioneer DOES NOT recommend using Cable Select (CS) NOR should there be a Slave (SL) device connected during the procedure.

2. If Windows 95/98 is used, boot into MS-DOS mode by selecting the Start menu on Windows 95/98. If you are using Windows 2000 or ME you will need to make a DOS boot disk with the appropriate drivers or just use a Windows 98 bootdisk.

3. Make sure there is no disc in the drive unit before the firmware upgrade is executed.

4. Make note of where you unzipped the update files at , then go there and Execute the UP106.BAT file while you are in DOS (see point 2)

5. The current version number of the firmware will be shown then erased and the new firmware will be uploaded.

6. When the DOS prompt returns. Reboot the computer by powering OFF wait 10 seconds then power ON.

Do not turn OFF the PC while upgrade is executed or the firmware upgrade will fail. Retry upgrade procedure from 4 through 6 if the firmware upgrade does fail.
Apply power cycle (OFF/ON) if the firmware upgrade fails.

IMPORTANT:
The upgrade will not function and permanent failure of the drive could occur...IF it is interrupted in any way. OR if the wrong firmware is used. ALSO you must have the drive connected as per procedure point 1.

To be honest, if you don't know how to boot to dos, I would ask someone to do it for you, you could risk ruining your drive.

The instructions posted by vav are pretty comprehensive.

Nightmare, can you tell us what this firmware version does ?

I have the Pioneer 106, but why do I need to install this firmware, when it seems to be running fine now ?

I don't know, that's why I'm asking :)

Just remember the golden rule if isn't broke don't fix it.
The way I look at it is only if you have a problem flash, if your programs work and you can burn DVDs don't flash. I flashed my Pioneer 104 so I could burn in half the time (1x to 2x). If the flash goes bad you could need a new drive!!! So like I said if it works leave it alone.
Just my two cents. Good luck.

I downloaded that firmware, but it was for the 106 DVD drive NOT the A06/106 DVD-+R/RW drive. Wrong firmware. Latest for the burner is 1.06, not 1.09. The 1.09 is for the DVD reader drive only.
