How do I burn an AVI on to a DVD

I recently created a movie using Adobe Premier. The ouput file is a 4.3 GB AVI file. I attemted to use NERO Vision Express2 and it just seemed to process forever. There were no errors and the program was not locked. I've been looking at your tutorials but I can't seem to find any advice that matches my scenario. Should I convert the AVI to an MPEG first then attempt to burn the MPEG? How do I do that. I have had no problem creating an SVCD using Nero, but I am unable to successfully create a DVD. What are your feelings on Pinnacle's Express or Adobe's Encore DVD authoring tools. I have had no luck with those programs either.

I would convert to MPEG2 and AC3 first, then author. There are tutorials on AVI-->MPEG2 and AC3 encoding in the tutorials section.

NeroVision Express is doing a LOT of work, especially on a 4.3GB avi.
What's happening that you can't see, is Nero encoding the avi to a dvd compliant mpeg, then muxing the audio and video together, and writing out the dvd template, adding your menu's and chapters, and attempting to spit out a finished dvd.
I estimate on an avi that size, approximately 34 hours to process. No, I'm not kidding.
A dvd can hold approximately 60 minutes of reasonable quality video. An avi that is that huge, simply takes more processing time, and doesn't necessarily produce better results.
Nero is also not good quality, as well as being seriously slow.
I suggest you look into separate encoding and authoring applications, such as TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc DVD Author.
