Home Video to PC Then on DVDr......HOW ?

please help if you can !
can anyone tell me how to put my home video "TAPE" in my PC then burning it to disc.

i think burning won't be a problem,
but i'm having a problem putting the video in my PC.
i have the right connections from my video recorder to the PC (i think) and i have a picture.
but it's coming out in black & white and a bit scrachy.
i've tried connecting to video to the PC with a super-video cable, a scart cable and aslo an ariel cable, but the picture is always the same (black & white)

can anyone help me out or tell me what i might be doing wrong

is there some settings i have to change to my PC ?

my video card is :
Pinnacle PCTV Pro

and the softwear (what came with it) is called :
PCTV Vision 2.50

i've done an assistant test and it's telling me that my video card is working OK.

i've set it to PAL for europe.
an anyone recommend a good program for me to use ?

also the TV (SKY) signel is very poor quality.
and i'm not using a over long cable (maybe 4 feet long)

also i been looking around www.dvdrhelp.com
but can't seem to find anything what can help me !

my email addy is :
wiggle2ted@hotmail.com

MANY THANKS
JOE

Your problem sounds to me like the settings for PAL or NTSC haven´t been set correctly, try switching PAL/NTSC to see if there´s any change and if your source is PAL check that the right one is selected if I´m not mistaken that card supports two or three different settings for PAL.

thanks for the reply mate
yes i have change the PAL & NTSC settings
and you right there are different settings for PAL but i've tried them all and it always the same picture quality.

could it be the connection (cable) ?
what should i be using for the best quality ?

also could the signel from the video to the pc not be strange enough
do i need some sort of booster to bring the video signel in better ?

PLEASE.. anyone help i've been trying to sort this problem out for a while now.

MANY THANKS
JOE:)

A way to know if there´s anything wrong with your signal could be to connect your video source directly to a tv set, if the signal displays well in the tv then you´ll know that the signal is ok and then you can deal with your pc certain that the problem is with the config in your capture card.

If you do all the above test and find no problem with the signal but still can´t get the video ok in the pc then it could also be some kind of Macrovision protection, I had this kind of issue with ATI cards that have protection in the hardware.

THANKS..........weboneando
if you hade the same problem with Macrovision protection
what did you do ?
please let me know
many THANKS
JOE:)

I found a patch to remove Macrovision protection in ATI cards, I´ve been doing some search but haven´t found anything like it for Pinnacle cards, if I find anything will let you know.

Did you already tested your source with a tv set? It could be some posibilities that your card might be defective.
