thanx for the info.
here's my experience with the update:

first, it's rather difficult to get it working. the best way to do that is to delete the previous version from the add/remove menu, during the uninstall you will be asked whether you want to remove drivers too, say yes.
then reboot the pc. next time hardware wizard will start, tell it that you want to select the driver location yourself and select the inf location.

ctfmon.exe problem: old problem, still not fixed. typical MS egoism: they provided certain memory space to 3rd party products, but then violated the agreement by using this reserved space for ctfmon.exe, which is part of office xp. realmagic will either crash or display strange errors if it's in memory. so there are two ways: either uninstall ctfmon.exe, MS provides info on how to do that, search on google, but I prefer to rename ctfmon.exe to something else. note: simply removing it from the startup registry keys won't work, ctfmon.exe will always re-insert it.
But: if you rename it and try to update office from MS update page or using a local update, it won't work, so before updating office always rename ctfmon.exe to its original name, update office and rename ctfmon.exe back to something else.

problem with remote selector:

there used to be 3 progs for H+: universal selector, zone selector, and remote selector, but universal selector doesn't work any longer with newer versions, and zone selector doesn't remove the restrictions (e.g. on some german dvds, like Mullholland Drive one can't switch off german subtitiles when playing in english language; on the german version of Panic Room one can't make screenshots in realmagic control. These restrictions are removed by remote selector only, but: only if you select "enable type 2"
this doesn't matter, however, any longer, since in 2.4 type 1 doesn't work at all any more, only type 2. if you select type 1 in remote selector, and start dvd station, it will say "dvd not found" (because in type 1 region code is not cracked properly any longer in 2.4). It's a pity actually, because type 2 is a little slower, but the advantage is that all restrictions will be removed:
any region can be played
macrovision removed
subtitiles can be switched on/off in all titles
screenshots can be made in all dvds

another player is here:

http://eugene7777.tripod.com/

don't know whether it works with 2.4, but it worked pretty well with 2.3. some extra features in it, but still, it has some technical problems, I prefer the official dvd station
here's a screenshot made with hollywood plus (made with v.2.3, but works also with 2.4; remote selector 2.03 in type 2 mode used):

thanx a lof for share your large experience

... i don't know, but since i've instaled winxp pro corp (with sp1 integrated) and officexp w/ frontpage (w/ sp2 integrated), the problems with ctfmon.exe simply disappear ...

merry christmas
