can someone put me in the right direction i got some AVI that i downloaded. but i can not get them to work i am new to this so be patient with me how do i get them to work?

First off... I hope that these are public domain files, because this is a warez free forum and we cannot help you to break the law.

Assuming that these are P.D. files, what do you mean "work?" What do you want to do with them? Watch them? Convert them?

Please elaborate.

What's the program that tells you what codec's you need... anybody remember? - was sure I had it, but I just can't find it - got iT!

As LTR12101B said download G spot and it will tell you what codecs they are then install the needed codecs and you will be able to watch them.

i have downloaded gspot and it says i have the correct player and codecs but the file starts to play there is no sound and no picture any ideas?

i got about 10 files that are the same ive tried windows player ,shampoo,
xplayer and on on

If the counter counts, but you get nothing but black and silence, then there is a good chance that you have a fake file.

A fake AVI like that will compress with say winRAR extreamly well, where as a regular DivX/mp3 type AVI will not. So I suggest that you try compressing it, if it shrinks down to like 1%, then just delete it.

the file size was 480,000 when compressed then it went down to 680 so i think you are right
