Help with this type of divx file.

Hi, i usually dont have any trouble converting a divx file to vcd format, i normally start TMPGenc Plus up and use the wizard, and basically keep clicking next and it does the rest, but i downloaded starwars episode 2 yesterday,it was about 800 megs, and when i try to convert with TMPGenc Plus in the same way it gives me some mesage about the movie being to long or something,it says the movie is 551 minutes long, but i know it not its only 02:15:18 long, and it says the estimated file size will be about 5 gigs, anyway i put 2 jpegs in a zip,so someone could see what im talking about, and if someone has come across this problem before, thanks.

Try loading it in to virtual dub and see what that says.
Also if u rip the audio to .wav with virtual dub then it solves a lot of problems with tmpgenc and divx files.

Thanks for the reply,i put it in virtualdub and it said, well i put a screenshot of what it said,so you can have a look, anyway so what should i do next, thanks.

I would try save wave from the file menu.
Then try loading the .wav file as the audio source in tmpgenc.
Use the divx file for video source.
Note this is not actually a wave file .
This usually works for me.
If it doesnt then goto the movies tutorials section and look at this.

That is the best method by chickenman. The other method usually works but not always. (you may possibly get audio slightly out of sync).

Hey thanks a lot daveml,i loaded up the video and audio both seperate like you said, and i couldnt believe it,it worked straight away, this forum really is great for getting help when you need it,try getting that from a place like isonews forum, all you get there is a bunch of people flaming you, anyway now im going to get a couple of other old movies out that had the same problem and do the same, thanks again.

Dont count your chickens yet!lol!
It may crash after a few minutes.
If the easy way doesnt work then try Chickenmans (better!) way.
Any more problems then post in this thread again.
We want to encourage everybody to do the best they can.
U never know I may be watching one of your rips myself one day!

Yeh i left it go over night,in the morning it was done, just burnt it on vcd and it works great,im in the middle of doing a couple of old startreks that had the same problem, hey by the way, when i ended up fixing starwars by extracting the audio with virtual dub,it got me thinking about other ways and i found another tool that does a similler job,you know the avi2vcd,well i never use that program because it takes about 5 times longer to encode than tmpenc, but it has another program that comes with it, the decompress program,i only found it last night after going through a couple of old tools, but it basically fixes the problem to,it turns the 800 meg divx file into about a 2 gig file, and then i loaded it up in tmpenc it was encoding it without any problems aswell, but id allready encoded it at that point, but anyway i put it in a rar if anyone ever needs it,because its only 60k.

Zoltar, glad to hear all worked out okay in the end.

This is a friendly forum here and flamming is never tolerated.
