Can anybody point out a good (detail) tutorial for converting vcd to avi(divx5). I have checked out chickenman tutorial but all dvd to divx or svcd to divx but not what I am looking for.
Thanks
With Vidomi you can convert mpeg2 to divX.
With Tmpeg you can convert mpeg1/2 to divx but i think you´ll not like the results!
And i don´t see the reason why. The quality would be not better and the size would be a little smaller, or more if you lose quality!
than which is the better one,as u said vidomi is for convering mpeg2 but it wont convert mpeg1 and tmpeg will have no good result so which should I go for?
I did that with the setting on vcd help but the size was not so good I mean I had 521mb mpeg1 (dat) file after conversion it gave me 386mb avi kuality of pic was ok , can u please give me detail setting of divx5 codec so the size will at least 250mb or some thing like closer
Thanks
can u tell me what r this in variable bitrate mode i.e 1-pass, 1-pass quality-based, 2-pass first pass, 2-pass second pass.
is to do with the quality of picture or the speed ?
Changing the bitrate for example to 1800 from 780 will give you a bigger file but with better quality.
Variable bitrate mode, is mostly for the quality.
no matter what you do, converting from a lower quality format (like vcd) to a better quality format will still give you a low quality file.
It isn't worth the trouble to convert your mpeg-1 (vcd) to DivX.
The quality will still look close to about the same but still a little loss in quality (from 3-10% depending on how high a bitrate you use & pass modes).
DO NOT BOTHER. Next time just get a better source for your file.
Ofcourse there is no stopping some people from trying to make new tires from a circle to a square.

you have right that´why i already wrote:
"And i don´t see the reason why. The quality would be not better and the size would be a little smaller, or more if you lose quality"
But he insists on doing it in his own way!
I suppose he wants to save the movie to a smaller size!
ok guys I got your point that it's no use converting vcd to avi as quality will b not be good any way I have one more problem
i had downloded(local network) a dvd of scoobedo movie it was in is ni bin and cue format my question is that I seen on our forum in tutorial section explaning that it has vob files(after ripping) but in my files I have exactly same thing like a vcd I mean have mpeg file but the movie plays well in windvd (only) but no vob files can be like this
I am not sour if I understand you, but I think you have to use ISO Buster or something like this to extract the files from bin and cue! Then you will have a complete (S)VCD or just burn image with Nero or any burning software.
