help with nero 6 - 'backing up files'

Hi there, just a quick question

I recently used nero 6 to back up files onto a dvd-r it took 8 dvd's!

they were all .avi's and the thing i cant understand is - it wrote half of one file on one new dvd and the other half on another dvd after it, so the movie was split in half.

is there anyway around this? it writes these 'half' files as '.N_C file' which cant be opened by my media player.

is there an option to tell nero to NOT split files when using backup?

or shall i just resort to backing up my files by hand and manually select the files it burns?

thanks in advance

Wot size is .avi ?
by sounds of things it must be greater than 4.5 gig .. and wot mode ya burnign it in ? dvd-rom or dvd-video ...

if under 4.5 gig and just wanna bak up as .avi burn in dvd-rom mode .. with a guess if ya doing it as dvd-video Nero would be converting avi to dvd format ..needing 2nd dvd-r ..

If you used the Nero 6 Backup module then it's not possible- you must make a selective restoration to harddisk first. If you don't want files being splitted, then simply don't use the backup module for that...

Sounds like you want something like "Burn to the Brim" - http://bttb.sourceforge.net/

Not an ideal, potted solution, but it shows the idea of optimally filling the media without file splitting (and even, requesting that certain directories be kept together).

It does support DVD media, but only be creating huge ISO files, or by just taking the files it suggests and adding them to your chosen burn program.

thanks..but...

Thanks for the replies guys

I think i know whats happend now, using the backup option in nero makes it fill my dvdr's to the brim, and doing so splitting files. AND, the backup feature isnt for actually using the dvdr's and playing off them, instead as an actual 'backup' ( in other words, to store the discs away till something goes wrong )

does that make sense?

i think ill have to give burn to the brim a try, or failing that, picking out the files myself and burning the discs one by one...

...

Just so you know what it is im tryign to burn...

I have 14 folders with about 20 avi's in each.

each folder represents one simpsons series, there are 14 in total.

and it all comes to about 32gig

Its important to me to try to keep all the avi's in each of the folders and in order...

thanks

In that case, you'd have to tell BTTB not to split folders - but it would still place them in any order - looks like you'll have to assemble them by hand - but it looks like you won't get two folders to one DVD - and I don't suppose you want to go through and recompress them all!

Forget BTTB - you'd end up telling it what to do... looks like you'll end up putting 1 1/2 folders on each, if you want some semblance of order.
