Help with neodivx please!

Hi!

I've been ripping x-files dvds for some time now and making avi files to play in realplayer.

My problem is this:

The files play fine on my realplayer, and I sent them to my friend in Germany who also had no problem whatsoever with them. However when I sent them to a friend in the USA she has trouble playing them. She tried them on both realplayer and divx 2.0 Alpha. The movie seems to play in slow motion, and therefore the sound is also out of synch.

The strange thing is that I tried playing the same files on my windows media player and they played fine, untill I tried them again whilst my processor was busy encoding. Then I had the same problems as my american friend.

I have a pentium IV, but I don't know what processor my friend has, I suspect that it may be slower than mine. Do you think that this could be the cause of the problem?

Any help would be appreciated :D

I think your encoding your AVI as a high bit rate that your computer is able to play back fine, hoever your friend in the US has a slower computer and its unable to keep up with the playback. Can your frientd in the US play them on another faster computer?

Thanks for the help ChickenMan :D

No, I don't think my friend can use another computer.

I'll try to re-encode them using a lower bit rate and see if that helps. The only problem is that I won't be able to tell if they work by playing them on my own pc. I'll just have to send them to here and hope for the best :D

well before we jump to that conclusion, it would help if we knew what their system specs are.
Can't you get that info from your friend?
If your bitrate is say at 1000Kbps, a Pentium 3 or above shouldn't have too hard a time with it, provided they have enough RAM (256) on their system and a descent graphics card.

Maybe they are playing it off their cd/dvd-rom drive also (which often means you burned them at too high a speed), when they wouldn't have problems just putting them on HDD first and then play off it.
Just some thoughts on it.

Thanks shadoe_phantom :D

I've e-mailed my friend to try and find out her specs. Next time I speak with her I'll mention about putting them on to her hd , and see if that makes a difference.

Can't exactly remember what bitrate I used when I encoded them, but I'm pretty sure it was higher than 1000kbps. That will teach me to write down all information next time I do the job
