PS Some burners seem to work better as Master on an IDE cable as opposed to slave (just ensure jumpers set correctly) I also find yer burner is better used on a different IDE cable to yer ROM

whats the difference of "master" and "slave" ? my dvd rom is on "master" what should i do with the dvd writer? put it on slave? whats the difference?

Set the burner as master, and the DVD-ROM as slave- preferrably use an old type 40-wire cable, and not crosstalk enabled 80-wire one... some Atapi devices simply don't like it, and anyway 40-wire can achieve just fine UDMA-2 which is the norm for Atapi devices. 40-wire cables are also nondirectional (you can connect the devices in any order on the two plugs), while 80-wire ones are.
