Help with Divx

hey i just download some free animation,but it said I needed a Dixv player to view it, well i do have a divx and it wont work,

The Divx says.,, the video file your opening includes data that is not recognized by the divx plyer

contains the following data;
video data FOURCCcode0

you may need to install new video codec on your computer,

Now whats this all about,,, as far as i kjnow Ive got the lastest verison of Divx,,, whats up here,,please help

Just install the codec and play the file(even wmp can do it)....Check the file with gspot to see what codec you need???Use search for these 2 things!!

ok Im DLing windows media codecs 8.0&9 instalation package,just to be sure Im not missing anything,,

Im gonna try and get it to work ,,,BTW the file i couldnt get to play was ((&&%$#^.avi

ofcourse thats not the real name,,,it just has avi behind it,,

anyhow it still will not play,,, BTW it's actually playing i guess on WMP just no audio or video,,,, on dixv player is where it wont play at all,,,

what am i doing wrong!!!

As said in my first post--get a gspot,check which codec you need????and go from there!!

ok i got gspot and checked it out and it says file should play

Can you actually tell us what GSPOT reported the codec for Video & Audio are? Saying "..checked it out and it says file should play" isnt helping anyone.

and it has nothing I clicked it an it said rendering failed

SO THATS THE WHOLE THING BROS!!,,

Let me tell ya,, ive DL'd Dixv codecs ,,,for wmp
also offical codec for wmp 8&9,, also dr divx, divx pro,,, a bsplayer, an now Im trying powere dvd,,

i got on irc til i found a room where someone could help me and nothing,,i tryed to DL a file from there to and it would play either although everything else Ive DL'd plays fine

This clearly indicates the avi you have is NOT a divx. I have no idea what it is but its clearly not a DivX or Xvid avi.

Ok after a long battle with about everykinda player you cab think of,, i finaly got em all to play accept for the 1file i really wanted to play the most,,,but ohwell,, atleast now I got most of my questions answered,,and got some good sofware stuff along the way,,like gspot an stuff like that,,

I finally got em tp play useing the powerdvd thing,,but it would only play for 5mins because the powerdvd thing i got is a trial versioin,,

but finally I landed on Videolan,,it's not that good but it does the trick,,,
