Help with an AMD 2800+XP

Can anyone please tell me what is the average Temp. for an AMD 2800+XP ?

i've got an average reading of ~48'C to ~53'C (this doesn't sound right to me, i'm also packaged it with a Volcano 11+ Xaser Ed. Heatsink & Fan, so the stock fan is still in the box)

I'm running an Asus A7V8X-X M/board, Bios Rev. v1.06 (v1.07 hangs the system and gives bogus temp readings and choked the previous chip i swapped under warranty)

(and yes, i know the chip has to be running around or below ~68'C located in the AMD Thermal specs. )

thanks in advance,

yeah.?!

i was running an 2000+ and that blew under 40'C... i'm just curious... i don't want any more system lockups

Is the SYSTEM cooling adequate? - the best CPU heatsink in the world, is going to look pretty useless if there isn't enough airflow through the box.

Even WITH Intake + exhaust fans added, I'm at 35C for the case and 46 for an idling Thunderbird 1200 - If I enable HLT=DISCONNECT (using WPCREDIT) - the CPU temp drops to case, but stability is degraded.

i got 2 out-take & 1 in-take case fans... man this sux... i play high-res stuff like "Call of Duty" and i fear of a meltdown...

ok i tweaked some of the fans and now my 'Mother Board Monitor v5.3.3.0' is reading ~45'C - 47'C & Chasis is reading 30'C ... doess anyone have the same CPU for a comparison to mine ?

Gotta tell you, Newgen, I think your freezing problem is not heat specific.

I just reapplied TIM to my proc and reseated the heatsink (thermalright slk800) and I'm idling at 45 C, loaded at 51 C. However, it turned out that I had a gob of fluff blocking flow under the heatsink before, so I was running extremely high temps -- and the cpu would throttle and reboot at around 70 C.

So I'm suggesting that you should carefully consider the driver procedure you're currently using to install the system. I've found that this can take months to fine-tune but that it has a tremendous overall effect on system stability. Otherwise, I'm o'c ing my 2600+ (which I unlocked with some wire) to 2300 mhz, using just the air cooling and some case fans.

You really shouldn't have to worry about freezes playing Counterstrike ;) .

Uuugh, Call of Duty, that is. . . .

Anyhoo, go get a copy of the Uber bios for the A7N8x (make sure you down the right one):

You might want to up the voltage settings just a little for cpu and agp.

The order I use for installing my A7N8x ver. 1.4 Delux is as follows:

1. Win 2k
2. Sp2
3. DX 9.0a
4. Upgrade IE6 for security (though I don't use it anymore)
5. Use the most recent Nvidia Nforce 2 chipset drivers (I haven't used the Asus drivers in about six months)
6. Most recent ATI drivers.

Hope something here helps.

NewGen, Im running amd 3000+ cpu & the max temp from amd is 85c. Im running at about 51-59c, but ive got a crap cpu fan which is going to be changed soon. Only start worrying when it creeps up over about 65-70c.

Just built AMD 2400+ 2 weeks ago
My Temps are :
idle : CPU 47c SYS 37c
working : CPU 61c SYS 47c

System runes fines ... stable .. no reboots or freezes .. so I keep with stock HSF until sys gives me hell .. Using PCI exhaust Fan help drop sys Temp down 10 c ..

My temps with a XP2500+ and asus a7n8x-x

Motherboard Name Asus A7N8X

Temperatures
Motherboard 21 °C (70 °F)
CPU 32 °C (90 °F)
CPU Diode 37 °C (99 °F)

Cooling Fans
Power Supply 3125 RPM

Voltage Values
CPU Core 1.68 V
CPU Aux 1.68 V
+3.3 V 3.34 V
+5 V 4.97 V
+12 V 12.42 V
-12 V -12.33 V
-5 V -4.67 V

My XP1900+ normally ran at 40-41 degrees with about 45-46 when it is woeking. Then again the case is aluminium

(Of course AMD do tend to run hot, better switch to pentium)

Heres a new temp post from the pc i just built with a XP3000+:

Motherboard Name Asus A7N8X-Deluxe 2.0

Temperatures
Motherboard 24 °C (75 °F)
CPU 41 °C (106 °F)
CPU Diode 49 °C (120 °F)

Cooling Fans
CPU 2537 RPM
Chassis 1577 RPM
Power Supply 1406 RPM

Im running 1 intake and 1 exhaust fan - both vantec stealth 120mm in a Antec SLK3700AMB case, hope this helps!

Boy I wish I had your temps.
MB ASUS A7V8X-X
Version REV1.xx
CPU XP 2800+
CPU 54/129 c/f
MB 41/105 c/f
CPU Fan 3391 RPM
Chassis Fan 2596 in the front blowing in.
and I have a two other fans one in the back and the other in the side blowing out. My room temp is 72. I'm thinking about putting a second fan in the front.
