Help...having audio problems when converting from avi. to dvd

I hope someone out there can help me. I recently bought an LG multi burner which came with BHA burning software. Whenever I try to flip my home movies on to dvd the audio is choppy and out of synch. I use a sharp dv cam and transfer to the computer via firewire. The capture avi. video on playback is fine with no problems but goes choppy when put on dvd. I was told it is probably a codec problem but am not sure where I can get the proper codec or even any information about this problem. Please help me out if anyone can. It will be greatly appreciated.

I am a newbie but I have been encoding the audio using virtual dub, then the movie using tmpgenc and all 15 movies I have burned this weekend have worked just fine.
