having chapters

i was wondering if anyone knew how to make chapters by ripping a dvd...

i was planning on ripping a dvd and then burning it as a VCD or SVCD...but i dont know how to include the exact same chapters...

i tried using the tutorals...but no help...

any help is appreciated

The program DVD2SVCD has an option to include DVD Chapters when making a SVCD. I'm currently in the process of writing a tut but have a play with it in the mean time as its a pretty easy program to use really.

For VCD's you can use VCDEasy 1.1.10.

Get both from _http://www.doom9.org/software.htm

I have my vcds made but I want to add a menu and chapters. Can this be done? I downloaded VCDEasy 1.1.10 as you said and I am reading the tut. on vcdeasy.org but it is really hard to follow.

Thanks again.

DVD2SVCD, the best way to backup a DVD

dropzone,
I can verify that ChickenMans tut is the absolute best way to go backing up DV'Ds. DVD2SVCD is by far the best program I've ever encountered. I printed out ChickenMan's tut and it's easier than you might think it is. Once you get all your settings in, they stay there. All you have to next time you encode a DVD is load video ifo file and change the default folder ;)

"Another satisfied ChickenMan customer" :D

Yeah I already use DVD2SVCD when making svcds and use his tuts. for that and making vcd's also. What I want to do now is find out how to make chapters and menus for vcd. Thanks for the help though.

Yeah but I don't know how. I read the tut. for it but the guy that wrote it doesn't explain how to make the chapters.

I havent worked out how to add a menu in myself with VCDEasy yet (if even possible) but Chapters are easy (well for me they are so must be for you to!)

Run VCDEasy and in Main, set to VCD 2.0, then hit Add Files button (bottom right corner) and load in the MPG file. Then click on Chapters Tab. I tend to make a nunber of equidistant chapters and put 10 in the box. You tend to have 45 to 70 min of VCD on a disc so at 10 that would add a chapter ever 4.5 to 7 min. Addjust to your requirments, then hit the OK next to that line and you will see all the chapter points drop into the large box on right of the screen.

Then go back to Main screen, if you want to burn it, then select your burner and tick Burn box. Give a Volume Label and hit GO button (bottom right). Done.

If you want chapters and menu. I would say go with VCDImager. This is an excellent piece of software. But one problem remain you have to know how to write xml code in order to get it to work. So to make it simpler I suggest you use TSCV for making a xml code for you. you can visit vcdhelp to get all infos there. ;)
