Harddisk stay awake

I'm searching a util that keeps my second old harddisk awake.
The drive sleeps after some minutes of no activity.
Set the energysaving off in Bios and Windows does not help.
Thanks for your help.

There maybe a jumper on the drive that needs to be either removed or set. If there isn't and you have confirmed your energy saving settings in both the Bios and Windows, then maybe your drive isn't going to bed but is instead getting ready to go to the big hard drive in the sky :p.

PS Some drives maybe able to shut themselves down automatically if the drive's temperature becomes excessive so you may want to think about adding an additional fan. Check your manufacturers website out for this detail.

Cheers,

With HDSleep, you can control the Power Management of your IDE and EIDE harddisk drives even if your BIOS does not support it. This is not only a question of power saving, it significantly reduces the noise your computer makes.

HDSleep enables you to define suspend times common to all drives or, apply independent settings to each of them. With the small taskbar icon and its context menus, you will control the power management just with a mouse-click.

If you already have a so called Green BIOS, HDSleep still can be a valuable tool for you. You are not limited to the fixed settings in your BIOS, instead you can change the PM options anytime you want, and even spin down your drives immediately with one mouse-click.
