graphics problem

Is my graphics card about to dye or what ?
when starting windows I see the splash screen ok but when windows actually starts I'm left looking at a blank screen,
I've got to restart in safe mode change resolution to 16 colours /
640x480 pixels and restart, that gets me looking at my desktop again once windows starts.
I've then got to uninstall my graphics card (nvidia geforce2 mx/mx400) and restart ,then windows finds the drivers reinstalls them and everythings fine (once I change back to 1024x768) bit of a carry on.
Funny thing is I installed a ghost back up I had made and the problems
still there
anybody any clues

Or could it be a problem with my monitor a 15" medion TFT ,
although I've had it a while does it maybe need its own drivers
(grasping at straws here)

Try booting in safe mode, reinstalling your video drivers, then boot into normal mode...

Could be corrupted drivers.

It sounds like your setings are in much higher refresh rate than the one supported by your monitor, if this is changing without a reason then don´t let windows to just reinstall nvidia drivers, first uninstall the drivers, do a reboot and then install the latest drivers.

Could be it - make sure it eaither takes the monitor as plug&play or you load the correct INF (driver) for the monitor
http://download.medion.de/medion.de/treiber/treiber/index.php?id=62&name1=TFT-Displays&name=Monitore

... Try to find on their english site
http://www.medion.co.uk
Absolutely f***ing useless, and I knew that before I went there - actually more there than I expected!, but Medion's commitment to English support (despite selling though a certain supermarket who also have no english-language web prescence)

I already tried reinstalling the drivers myself but it didn't do any good,
and ltr12101b your right about the english site (shocking)
but I'm reluctant to try the driver from the german site cause it
doesn't actually tell you what monitor it's for, the monitor
I'm using is the MD6144A0,do you know if it would be ok?

Just D/loaded File and it's got INF for all monitors ,but how do you load an INF file?

find out the refresh rate of your monitor as some will not handle optimal settings most if not all accept 75hz

reboot in safemode and change the settings to defaul for the refresh rate and then try working up from 60hz changeing a little at a time untill you start to get problems then stick with the setting that was just before the problematic setting :)

Viper_1069 you were spot on about the refresh rate, tried it
at 60Mhz and 70Mhz and everythings working fine,
I also installed the INF drivers for the monitor although that didn't
help much I'm at least using the right drivers now,
One question tho is a higher refresh rate better its just that I was getting warnings that changing the refresh rate could damage the
monitor And dont want to go any higher just in case.

;) had the same problemwith my other puter here on my networked setup :)

anything over 75hz and the monitor blanks out and has to be restarted in safemode and reset :)

usually trial and error works everytime :)

there IS a possibilty that the monitor could sustain damage after prolonged use with a refresh rate that is to high for that particular monitor, usually if you buy the monitor new you get instructions that advise the optimal refresh settings :)

and some models state the max refresh rate on the back of the unit :)

my advise here would be if it works fine at the refresh rate you have got it set at then its best to leave it at that :)

You found the monitor install then?
Not sure what windows version, but it usually ends up as something like "change monitor" - have disk.

With an LCD (TFT) screen, low refresh rates don't result in flicker, and with a relatively weak graphics card (2MX, I've got one as well), lowering the refresh rate can allow more of the graphics RAM bandwidth to go to performance, instead of screen refresh - it can be worth a percent or 2 on test scores.

If you change the scan rate, I'd suggest activating the display panel's "auto calibrate" function if it has one, as that will optimize it to the card's timings.
