ive just bought a game for pc it loads up with the colours then when youre coming to play the game it all black the graphics card ive got plays all my films and everything perfect any ideas

sometimes they recommend a specific VGA driver version, or you need the Indeo codec to be able to see the intro video, otherwise it will hang; some games create a log file, where a helpful error message could be stored;
in other words: have a look at the game's ReadMe or search for trouble shooting FAQs at the publishers web site;

It could be switching to a video mode that's unsupported by the monitor, ensure that you also have the correct monitor driver.

Have you the correct direct x drivers installed for that game?
Does your vga card meet the minimum requirements?
