Grainy Picture on big screen TVs

I use TMPGEnc to convert 60FPS .avi downloaded movies to mpeg
using NTSC. The picture quality is on fine on a 19" TV but gets grainy on a 32" TV. Is there some setting I can change to correct
this.

A grainy picture on a large screen tv can be caused by a low quality source video or maybe from a low resolution picture.
The bigger the screen the larger the spaces between the pixels.
The easiest way to increase resolution (number of pixels) is to encode to svcd ( if your player is compatable).
If the source video quality is poor to start with, downloaded avi quite often r, you might be stuffed!
I find a lot of screeners/cams which r ok on small tvs are almost unwatchable on my 32" widescreen tv. It just shows up every flaw and magnifies it.

Thx Daveml, if I were to purchase a DVD burner can I expect an
increase in the picture quality using the same avi movies???

ever tried to fit a square peg in a round hole ?!

if the picture on the source avi/mpeg etc is bad quality you will not get a better picture if you get a dvd burner !

if you get a dvd burner and copy an original dvd then no doubt you will have a great copy almost as good as the original dvd :D

but if you have a downloaded /copied vcd/svcd cam or screener or divx or smr /dat or other film rip or copy unless its a great quality in the 1st place then ya not gunna get it to go any better no matter how hard you twiddle/tweak the settings nor by burning to a writable DVD :(

altho you will be able to fit many more films per DVD blank as a bonus lol :D as there much lager in capacity than a standard cdr/cdrw !

:D sorry to be blunt but as dave said it simply just will not happen if its a naff copy in the 1st place ! :(

Agreed! In actuallity you can never make something a better quality. There is always some loss. Can't make a DivX look better in VCD -->SVCD--> DVD & vise versa. Always there is a loss. Not to mention your avi was poor quality to begin with (60fps lol).
Best you just get from original source & convert first time yourself. Then you will also have to decide which format you want.
I never ripp a DVD & make an SVCD then later from the SVCD make a VCD (quality would be poorer compared to making the VCD straight from the DVD vob files).

Good luck in your quest though

The best you can get is if you convert your DivX to SVCD as it can retain more video data than doing a DivX to VCD. Results will be better but a lot depends on how good the DivX was encoded in the first place.

Thanks all, the new smr movies tend to be TS quality and play fine
on the smaller screens, but you can't squeeze blood from a
turnip.:D
