Gordian Knot and Vidomi

Will Gordian Knot produce better, equal, or less video quality than Vidomi? I experimented with both programs using divx 4.11 and selected 2 pass/1 pass. I see the video quality about the same.

Generally Vidomi produces a slightly better quality, or wrather it appears so. GK uses nandub primarly for its conversion. I have done a fiew things with nandub (including with subs) and I find it can produce quality about the same as vidomi, only that you need to use a higher bitrate to do so.
I am not the grand expert at it (like CM and some others), but I believe it is how they each soften black (blocks) noise that makes the difference between these 2. I think Vidomi does a slightly better job at that than GK but otherwise both produce good quality.
Ofcourse for the most part, people use either 5.02 or 3.11 DivX and not 4.11. But you can use whatever you like best. Both have good support, so you can bet both Vidomi & Gordion Knot will improve. Choice is yours really.

The biggest part of the final quality is really what the DivX codec is doing. It does most the work. The frontend that does the re-sizing, etc has a lesser influence on final quality. Pick the one thats the easyiest and does all you want it to do. I just Vidomi so darn easy to use and does it all so well.

I agree with Chickenman :)

Actually, I've been using nearly only GordianKnot with DivX 3.11 or DivX 5.02. It produces quality movies with a filesize really close to the one I've choosen, in most of the cases.

I've been trying Vidomi also, but with XviD. Vidomi is attractive because it is a single software, while Gordianknot is using a little collection of softwares (it could be at its advantage because those softwares haev the reputation to be the best ones in their category, including Nandub that supports smart bitrate control for DivX 3.11, and virtualdub for Divx 5.02).

I like Vidomi too, with its nice and easy to use interface. But I go on using GordianKnot because I've never been disappointed by performances during encoding, options, and results :)
