Good prog alternatives

euhhh,is it possible to use VirtualDubMod to rip dvds?
my problem is that i find vidomi takes 2 long to rip a dvd(the mummy) compared to flaskmpeg & xmpeg, but the macadam is that both crash 2 much

One version of vertual dub allows you to load vob files . The problem is that after a rip you have about 5 vob files to convert to 1 divx file and vertual dub will not allow you to load more than one ( even in append file mode).

Does anybody know how to do this

When you rip the DVD to HD, use DVD Decrypter and in Settings, change File Splitting to none and you end up with one BIG vob file. This then loads directly into VirtualDUBMod. You can even keep your AC3 audio.

Thanks for the information using vertualdub. I am using windows ME . If I make it one vob file that sounds just the job will I not have a problem with maximum file sizes of 4 gigs.
I would like to do the conversion without visiting the computer to many times.
Thanks

Thanks for all the help. I would like to keep ME for the time being .
I was woundering if there is a reason why people do not use DvdX 2.2 as It seems to work well for me . I use smartripper to get the files on to the hard disk . Then calculate bit rates to get the whole film on to one 700meg CD . Make the conversion using single pass divx commpresion and lame. If the resulting file is to long then cut the credits to get the hole film under 7oomegs to burn with CDRwin.
Just done a family 2hour film took 4 hours and the quolity is fair. I am thinking about buying a Kiss dvd player as they have a builtin DIVX codec

Just run the VOB's through DVD2AVI and then frameserve to VirtualDub/VirtualDubMod with AVISynth.

If you are using regular VirtualDub and AVISynth v2.5xx then don't forget to convert to YUY2.
