im in the market for a decent chip, but i dont have any experience doing small soldering jobs that are required for the messiah, nor do i know of anybody that could help me out. i was looking at a no solder modchip (the ACE key), i could probably do that installation no problem. any reviews on the quality? playability of games? easports games? ease of use? any info would help! :)

Maybe still be solder paint to solder

Not 100% on this m8 but check it out but I think some solderless chips are solderless but their is still 2 points that need soldering on xbox board, the actual bit where ya chip goes with most mods brought on the net is easy to solder, normally a nice big header with pins which slot in no probs then ya blob solder on the underside, just 1 bit which u might need to do still with some solderless which basically turns off onboard bios but itas a bugger to solder if ya not too good at it, i buggered mine up and luckily found out on net that where i soldered to was not connected to anything else and merly a bridge which I recreated and it fixed the prob. Makes no sense this till u actually do it!

are we talking about ps2 or xbox?

ASSUMING we're talking about ps2, like you mentioned before about the Ace Key, it's a below average chip like all no solder mods. If you have version's 4,5, or 6 then a no-solder mod will do but if you have v1-3,7,8,9, or 10 then you have no choice but to get a no swap modchip such as the messiah, DMS, Magic, or BlueX-5. You can always find someone who has installed modchips before to do it for you.

got the chip

i ordered the chip 3 days before your response ps2king, and i installed it in my ps2 v7 today. with the included swap discs it worked great, no problems installing or backing up a couple of my games. the only issue is the increased drive ejection speed during swapping, you got to do the swap quickly.

So i guess it works on v7's too. A few people told me that the no-solder mod worked on v7's but i didn't believe it but more people are coming to tell me so i guess it's believable. I have a v7 ps2 and I was thinking about getting a no-solder mod but my installer told me that it wasn't compatible so I got the messiah. Now i'm happy that I got the messiah instead of the no-solder mod.
