I mean even after compressing the image to full/max from Ghost the size is 1100 MB. I want to burn it on CD-R (one or two as the case may be). How to go about it? The ghost (v7.5), I am having dose'nt support direct burning from ghost itself as I downloaded this version and it was of appx. 700 kb. only.

If you run ghost with the parameter -split=700 it will make the image in 700 Mb chunks (you will have to have enough room on your hard drive, in a seperate partition or on a second HD).

You can then record these images onto CD using your usual software. My W98 takes 4 CD's to store.

To restore the image, you will need CD dos drivers on your boot disc.

The Ghost version I use requires a code inputting before it will allow restoration of an image, but it doesn't seem to have any way of restricting it's use for making one, and the prog shows the reg no when it starts anyway.

Thunder Bolt - It seems u r using a bat file for writing image file because I could'nt see the option of spiliting into 700 MB or so. Though option of split was there I was not able to use it. If u r using a bat file, can u send me a copy of that or a copy of ur ini file.
Another thing - Does it ask for the next CD or how does it operate

Regards.

1st for all you need run GHOST.EXE from dos enviroment, not a DOS window.
Copy GHOST.EXE in to a floppy with the system files. Boot your computer from this disk.

You can choose the split parameter 700 or 650 mb. For security choose 645 for 650 mb or 695 for 700.

You can made your cd bootable. When the prog ask you for a bootable cd, aswer yes and put your floppy with GHOST.EXE and with the system files, and others drivers that you need for your boot.

You can burn the image files direct to CD from ghost. Your burner needs to be compatible with GHOST. You can find this information on the Norton site.

I hope that help you

;)

Sorry, I should have been more precise.

As NetLion says, you need to include the ghost exe on a boot up floppy with a line in the autoexec.bat file 'Ghost.exe -split=700'. This will start ghost so that after storing 700 Mb it will stop and ask you to insert another medium /file.

In my case I haven't sorted out writing direct to CD so I store the images on a seperate partition on the hard drive, then I write these using Nero from within Windows. Obviously you need enough space to do this.

I have no problems storing the full 700 Mb, but by all means be a bit cautious and set the parameter to a bit less, it shouldn't make a lot of difference to your storage needs.

Don't forget you will need CD dos drivers etc on your boot up floppy for re-loading the images in the future.

Wood123 sent this to me, for some reason, answering this post.

you can make 2pcsd
ghost -clone,mode=pdump,src=1:1,dst=e:\backup.IMG -split=630mb -z9 -fx

Hope it helps.

I am sorry, I was out of station so could not reply earlier. Thanks for all ur help. Will try tonight and post a reply if any problem arises or if I did some stupidity. By the way can I block ghost (the exe file) so that no further images can be taken.

Regards.

ChickenMan is right with a command line;)

if you are using w98 try this:

before made the image,
rebbot in dos mode and
del the WIN386.SWP
in c:\windows
than make the image...
it reduces the sise and
the swap file turn normal when you
reboot or restaure your image,ok?

;) ;) ;)

only try to help :p :p :D
