General Question: Why the need for a video information file in CCE & more inside.

Hi guys

I use DVD2SVCD, when CCE opens it first generates a video information file which usually takes 1 hour and 40 mins for a 1 hour and 30 mins video and then it generates the .mpv file in the same time as above. Firstly i wanted to ask why is there a need for video information file and is there a way to speed up the encoding process with CCE without affecting the output of the video. I have a pentium 4 2hgz, windows xp, 512ram. Is this the expected time to do the above using my system?

Thanks

The information file is actually a "pass" so 1 pass with CCE is actually the equivalent of 2 pass with many encoders.
In theory the more passes u do the better results.
When doing a dvd 1 pass (which is actually 2) with CCE is better than any "compression" type encoder out there.
I normally use a higher pass setting for very dark or very long movies.
If converting avi/divx I would so at least 3 passes (actually 4).

The time for your system seems about right.
If u check if your cpu or RAM is maxing out with task manager or equivalent, u can see if an upgrade would help.
If RAM is maxing out adding more will help a lot.
CPU should max out , so dont run anything else while u are transcoding or the speed will come down and the time will go up.
