geForce 2 MX 400 w/TV Kills my hard drives

Hi,

I recently have upgraded my pc from using a Voodoo 3500 Video card, to a new Nvidia geForce2 MX 400 w/tv out.

When I put the new geforce card in, my computer tries to boot from the floppy, then from the cd, then, when it is supposed to boot from the hard drives, I get an error that says "Invalid Disk Drive" as if my drives aren't even there.

When I put the Voodoo card back in, the pc boots perfectly fine. I know the geForce card works because I installed it on a different machine and it worked great. This is obviously some other type of hardware issue since I cant even get to a point to install the drivers. I can't even reinstall windows, the setup fails.

Here is the config of my pc:

OS Name Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
Version 5.0.2195 Service Pack 3 Build 2195
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Manufacturer VIA Technologies, Inc.
System Model VT82C694X
System Type X86-based PC
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3 GenuineIntel ~865 Mhz
BIOS Version v1.0 ~
Total Physical Memory 1,048,048 KB
This PC also has two SCSI seagate Harddrives with RAID.

Thanks a ton for any help.

So the problem is at the boot no inside the os!

I think is better to try to change the power cords of the hd.
Try that the power cord of the hd to give supply only to the hd.
Can you change the AGP X2 setting to AGP X4 from the bios and enable the fast write option from the bios (if exists).
Also check the supply unit of your machine if it is 300 Watts and above.

I hope you find a solution my friend!

Clear the cmos. There's a jumper on the mobo. Read the manual for more info...

please tell me why ???...i changed/swapped a lot graphic cards but i NEVER cleared cmos first.....i think this a dangerous advice.

I think you are on the right way with your PSU advice ;)

Tired suggestions, still not working

Ok, thanks for your help so far everyone, here is what happened.

I flashed my Abit Vp6 Bios to the newest version. I aslo checked to make sure the power cords on my HD's are only for them, they are. I also enabled AGP4x in my BIOS and fast writing.

Any other ideas at all. It is still doing the same thing. Voodoo card works, geforce makes it seem as if my Hard drives arent even there.

Thanks again

Can you check also your power supply unit (psu) if is smaller or greater 300W please? If is equal or greater then the problem may be is not with the psu. If is smaller then may be you don't have enough energy to supply for your devices and you need tou change the psu of your box!

:p

Why would resetting the cmos be dangerous??
Resetting cmos to factory default helps to resolve a lot of hardware probs like these, esp when the guy has tweaked his bios a bit...

Power supply = 300W

I just checked my power supply and it is equal to 300 watts.........I was hoping it was going to be that easy. I am going to try clear the cmos next as suggested.

Problem Solved!!!

Clearing the CMOS worked!! I moved the jumper from the 1-2 Slot to the 2-3 slot for about 1 minute then put it back.

Thanks a ton for everyone's help!! What a freakin learning experience....lol
