gearsec.exe - where did it come from?

Hello, Hope i am posting this in the right section

I noticed this gearsec.exe running but have not installed anything gear related. i am aware that the gear stuff also comes with other products too. here is what I do have installed though:

Nero 5.5.10.35
CDRWin 3.9D
Alcohol 120% 1.4.3.518
BurnAtOnce 0.97a
IsoBuster 1.4

I had all these on o previous windows install with no gearsec.exe, does anyone know what other products include this or how I can remove it?

its part of DVDxCOPY if you ever installed that that is most likely how you got it on your system

a few other dvd burning programs also install the gearsec.exe such as DVD Studio Pro 2.0

Found it !!!!

I had a virtual machine (Using Connectix Virtual PC) and it only had a few programs installed.

Anyhow - It ends up that the one thing in common with my real system and the virtual one is "PowerQuest DriveImage 7.0".
Upon poking around in the Powerquest Program Directory I found other GEAR related files.

Thanks for the help though, hope this may help someone else down the road.

maby i should of suggested using find files and search for "gear" no quotes to locate any other copies of gearsec/gear drivers

PQDI 7 uses Gear drivers to burn to CD/DVD indeed...
And this is the least one should be worried about this program.

Even though looks as if I will be un-installing anyhow, It is rather useless without the boot CD
