Gator

I installed Gordian codec pack but apparently it comes along with Gator. So I deleted the Gator folder and ran Spybot and Regcleaner to get it out of my system but every time I start my computer again and run Spybot, Gator is back there again. Is uninstalling Gordian the only solution? If so what is a good replacement?

This may work, go into your start menu, & run. Type in msconfig. Click on your startup tab and deselect any items that point to gator. Restart your machine & then gator should not start.

hope this works.

i'm deeply ashamed Poacher but the codec i was looking for was divx 5 which comes with Gator too. Scaz i'm going to the link right now. Thanks.

Just went to the link, Scaz. This must have been written a long time ago. It's not that simple any more cos Gator doesn't appear in the software list. The only way that i know of to get rid of Gator is to uninstall the app it came with. But I'm not in the mood to do that until I've got a replacement.

Yep, the reason it includes Gator is because DivX 5.x Pro includes it, at least the free version does...

If you want DivX 5.x without Gator then it is a choice between buying pro or the free standard version.

Could also try XviD as an alternative, the quality is better as is the encoding speed. However sounds like you are using GKNot which as I understand it does not support XviD devapi4 builds, which is what I would recommend.

That said, seem to recall the ad-aware does a good job of getting rid of gator. Too good infact as I also recall the DivX requires at least one registry entry be left.

That's right mate. I'm going to have a look at the divx pro 5 which is not free.
