games jumping and pausing

Maybe someone could help please.
N.F.S.U. jumps and pauses in white knuckle areas. Would a video card of some sort help this annoyance. (owned and registered game)

As Duracell said....also don't forget to disable antivirus and any other resource hog in your systray or startup programs before playing..
