Frustrating MPEG1 to VCD problem

I have downloaded the guide on how to convert an MPEG to VCD and I have converted a few MPEG movies to VCD successfully. However, some MPEG1 moves have unsuccessfully converted and I don't know why.

For example, 1 of my MPEG1 files is 187MB and when I run that in Windows Media Player it runs for 41.40 minutes.

If I load that file in VirtualDub it displays the following under the information heading in the drop down menu:

352 x 240 29.970fps
32KHz mono 56kbps layer II

Therefore it is not VCD compliant and needs to be converted.

I have strictly followed the tutorial on this site to convert MPEG1 to VCD and when it has finished conversion, the following is displayed in "information" in VirtualDub:

352 x240 29.970 fps
44KHz Stereo 224kbps layer II

Therefore, the file is VCD compliant. However, the file is only 107MB and only runs on Windows Media Player for 10.44 minutes. Only about a quarter of the file has been converted.

I really know nothing about this stuff at the moment, but the only possible thing I can think of that would be causing this problem is that the movie originally consisted of multiple parts, possibly 4 parts which have been joined together and the joining process was not done correctly.

It would appear that I have only converted up to the first join in the movie!

I have no idea whether my thinking is correct or not, but does anyone have any suggestions as to why is is not converting properly?

If it is a joining problem, how can I fix that?

Is there any diagnosis program that I can run it through to tell me what the problem is?

Thanks

"the movie originally consisted of multiple parts, possibly 4 parts which have been joined together and the joining process was not done correctly." is most probably your problem. Try loading the MPEG into VD again, set Audio to Full Processing Mode and then hit Save WAV. Then use this WAV file as Audio source in TMPGEnc and the MPEG as Video source.
