Flashing a Litey 48x12x48 ?

Just bought one after being totally p*ssed off by my Plex 24x in the last 3 days (wont record on ANY media)
So I have heard that the Lite-on can be flashed to a higher rating - can the 125S ?

I think 48 is the limit of the "5" chipset
Doesn't even look like you can get 24x RW out of it

Still, 48 is WAY past the point of diminishing returns - 52 would only shave a few second off, assumg the drive didn't limit the medi to less anyway.

no the 125S can´t be flashed to a 52x drive.

must be a xxxx6S drive !!!! Mediatek chipset 6 !!

Thats ok. Wasn't too bothered anyway.
One thing tho' while I am having bother with my comp (Bastard Symantec crap - cant get rid of it - the damage it does is unbelievable) - the recording speed is WAY below what it says. I would guess the fastest it has recorded so far is 8X, no more. And yes, I DID have 40x blanks being used.

1) Make sure you not got anything else running in the back ground other then you burning apps while burning.
2) Some burning apps allow you to turn off Smart Burn on your Lite. You may want to use SmartBurn media check free download from here http://www.liteonit.com.tw/english/index-english.htm
SMART-BURN may limit CD-R burning speed base on the information that check the media info & quality. You can use this program to know what media you are using & what speed limit is set by SMART-BURN.

I have a 40x LiteOn and 40x TDK Taito Yuden CDR's and nevertheless use the conservative burning rule of thumb of which there is a lot of data out there to back me up...burn data at 32x or less and audio at 24x or less.

You will have much less C2 and most importantly less C1 errors created at those speeds. Besides, we are only talking about a few seconds anyway. I would much rather have reliable media, than the fastest burn any day!

I never burn at max, no matter what burner I use.
Pushing your hardware too hard is always going to cause u problems.

hello all, please excuse my novice question if the seem a little DOOH, & also thanx for the help in advance, but here goes can the 48125w be flashed up

NO, it's a "5" series chipset, and 48 is where that stops (but the "3" was thought to stop at 32x, until a strange drive version used it at 40x)

So the answer is NO, as far as it stands now.

PS. My drive is a 12x, and I usually burn at 8x - particularly as I'm using up cheap media bought for 2x/4x drives - tried a 12x burn - and the readability was poor in other drives - 8x works, despite the low grade media.
