i've had a few problems making vcd or svcd from mpg files I have downloaded. I guess it's due to poor encoding techniques and such after after a few wasted discs and some tests with daemon tools I seem to have found a process that fixes some of the following problems that can happen.
1. Invalid mpegs, padding required to fix mpg
2. Chapter insert points doubled up or causing problems with vcdeasy
3. Can't add chapters for vcd/svd
i found that why vcdeasy can report chapter problems when you go to burn the cd, there seems to be nothing in the program to fix it, even when you analyse the stream.
So as a matter of cause I do the following now when i have downloaded an mpg.
1. Load VCDGear
2. Select mpeg->mpeg in the vcdgear part
3. Check Fix Errors
4. Go to options and click DIASBLE FILE SPLITTING if it's not required
5. Press ok and save your new file. This will fix the padding problem (which can also be done in vcdeasy but i prefer to do this process first).
Next I load up TMPEGEnc and go to FILE--- TOOLS
1. Select MPEG1-VIDEO CD Standard or the SVCD VBR one, whatever is required
2. Enter your input/output files and hit RUN
This seems to demux then remux the stream and place sequence headers in front of gop headers. So this should fix problems where you can't add chapters or the chapter placement is screwed (as reported in the vcdeasy log when you go to burn).
Finally, process your fixed mpg in vcdeasy.
I hope this info wasn't too garbled and is of some use for people who have encountered similar problems to me with poorly encoded mpg streams.
