Fixation Error

Hello, i'm new on this forum; this is my first post. :)

I have a DVD/CD-RW Samsung-352B, attached as the slave device on the primary IDE channel, with two hard drives (each of them attached as the primary device on the primary and secondary IDE channel, of 40Gb and 80Gb respectively). I have 768MB RAM, Athlon Xp 2000+

I have WIndows XP Pro.
I was burning CDs with Nero 5.5 without any problem.

I install Nero6, and when i tried to burn a CD, i got the message "Could not perform fixation" error. I have found on another forums that i should try burning at a low speed (my drive is 52X and the media is 48X); so, i tried to burn at 8X, 12X, 16X, and even 32X... and i continue getting the same error.

I uninstalled NEro6 -thinking that it may be causing the problem-, and reinstall Nero 5.5 ... and nothing changes.
I have upgraded the firmware of the drive (i also read about it on another forum). And i don't know what else to do!! :(

Does anybody have more suggestions to help me?

Something i have noticed is that before this problem begun, if i put a 48X media on the drive, Nero only let me write at this speed (or less)... now, no matter what media i put on the drive, NEro always let me burn at 52X (the speed of the drive)

The drive read CDs and DVDs ok, without problem. And when i try to burn a CD, it get out of the drive really hot (i haven´t noticed if this was the same before, with the CDs that get burned ok).

Thks

Ummmm...........I'm not a guru but I think your HDD's should be master and slave on the primary ide channel and that your Samsung DVD/CD Burner should be the master on the secondary ide channel. All of the setup material I've read recommends this configuration. I had to use this configuration to get my Liteon LDW-411S to work correctly. Prepare yourself for XP reassigning drive letters. Mine are now C: and D: (HDD's) E: LDW-411S and F: TEAC CD-RW. Many people wish to change the drive letters back to their original assignments but as far as I'm concerned everything is working fine and the system is rock solid.
