Mozilla is the main project. Since many people though it was too big and for other reasons, they decided to start at least 2 new project: Firefox and Thunderbird.

Mozilla is a complete suite: you have a web browser, a web page editor, a mail client, a chat client, and others...

If you only want the browser your still stuck with the rest...

Firefox is based on the Mozilla's browser. So its the browser ONLY. Small, fast, free, its one of the best :)

Thunderbird is based on Mozilla's email client. The best one out there!

I don't really know why they keep the mozilla project since Firefoz and Thunderbird are mature enough to take their place!

I don't really suggest mozilla (the suite). Get Firefox and Thunderbird instead :)

That"s since 0.8 release.

The are many complains about the 0.9 release becaus they changed some things in it like the Extension Manager, Theme Manager, etc. Some old extensions won't work correctly with it.

But the problem the most people have could be bypassed by creating a new profile...

I'm actually using v0.9 with the Qute theme (them from 0.8) avaible here:
http://update.mozilla.org/themes/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=7&vid=8
And one extension: Session Saver, which does work on 0.9. This is really great: it reopens the tabs you were using on firefox closing! :) There is a similar feature in Tab Broswser Extension but really buggy. Session Saver is a must have!!! Avaible here:

That Moox build (P4/AXP) is for SSE capable processors only
http://www.moox.ws/tech/mozilla/

There are other builds there (of 0.9.1 release)
Pentium MMX (and presumably all MMX CPU's in socket 7)
P2/P3 (and non-SSE Athlons)

http://www.pryan.org/mozilla/firefox/ - Pryan.org is probably the best central resource for alternative/optimized builds

PS. Not quite certain... the MinGW compiles that seem to be out of favour now, were optimized for and EXCLUSIVE TO, in general , as the MinGW (GCC) compiler could be set to optimize both instruction ordering (to aid pipelineing) and instruction set use - and had some VERY detailed settings.

The documentation fot the Microsoft compilers suggests that optimizing for a CPU class does not prevent it running on lower - but to do that, it would either have to avoid instruction set adjustment altogether, or provide an alternative basic code path and a way of switching between them.
