Which player, how burnt ?

Don't burn with Nero. It doesn't write correct scandata.dat ...

Load your mpg into vcdeasy, author and burn with cdrdao.
Or create image (cue/bin) and burn with old cdrwin-versions 3.xx.
If it is a must for you then burn your bin/cue with latest Nero 5.5.9.9 ...

Thanks, glad you liked the tutorial. Sounds like its time for an upgrade though, its almost Xmas time. :)

Unfortunately to many DVD players cant handle SVCD very well. Waht I have worked out so far is burning an MPG with Nero to SVCD is always problematic , just to many probs in to many DVD Players. Making a Cue/Bin file and burning that with either Cdrwin 3.x or even with Nero of the same original file is not.

But as mb1 suggests, the best I have found so far is to use VCDEasy. It can author an MPG file (add Chapters, initial & trailing pics) or burn a Cue/Bin file and the results play better in problematic DVD Players. I will be updating my Tutorial along these lines shortly as well.

Hi all,

what about this solution provided on the vcdhelp.com page ??

"To be able to fast forward/rewind the SVCD on your standalone DVD-Player you must:Download this scandata.dat (right click on the link and select Save Target as to download it, it is just a very small textfile). Then add/drag the scandata.dat to the EXT folder of the SVCD."

the link to this page is :
h++p://www.vcdhelp.com/nerosvcd.htm
there you can download that scandata.dat file

I know it says that this step is not neccessary for nero later than 5.5.6.4, but maybe it helps. Chickenman, what do you think ???

1. This is also no correct scandata.dat (like vcdeasy/vcdimager will write). It is a dummy file with content: SCAN_VCD

2. The last Nero versions don't allow to import that file (only up to 5.5.4.x or so)

3. Later versions than 5.5.6.4 do it also the false and unusable way.

It is really not understandable to me that Ahead is not able to fix that sh*t.

Thanks people for your responses not to big a bug to bear
