F-Secure Problem

I've recently installed F-Secure and found that if they (management console & F-Secure) run at start-up my system slows down to a crawl. Do you people that use this only use it as a partial time use and not on full time? I love the program but I can't have it slow down my system this much...Is there a fix for this? I have an XP1800+ and 512mb ddr ram...not a slow rig!

I will also say that I installed it on my girlfriend's comp, 800 athlon, 512MB DDR with Win XP and it did the same thing.

I have it running on:
1) PIII-450
2) PIII-850
3) Athlon4 1Ghz
4) AlhlonXP-2100+

All running just fine...no slowdowns at all.

However, the update server is at times very slow, so I download the latest updates at tucows.com

What happens is if I click on a file to open it, the hour glass just keeps turning and it takes sometimes over 2 min to open a file..I downloaded a patch from Microsoft to fix it but it still hangs.. I guess I'm the only one who's had a problem with this so I guess I'll just uninstall it.

Uninstall it and forget about f-secure.
Use f-prot instead.
To get it, use the search button and you shall find it.

soundforbjt...

Were you using any other antivirus BEFORE you installed F-Secure. Did you have NortonAV before perchance??? Norton's AV is notorious for causing other AV's problems long after its uninstalled...'cause pieces of it are still on your computer.

I have had it do the long hourglass routine several times.
Particularly on keygens. Those files must have suspicious structures.
(Using AVP on another computer, no slowdown on the same files.)

To clear something up...The long hangs are not while I'm trying to scan a file. Even if I right click to check properties or to extract, it will hang forever. Never used Norton...I was using a free one called AVG. I used add/remove plus to uninstall it. And I never changed the default settings. Like I said, I'm stumped...Never had a piece of software do this!

F-secure scans everything. You never need to run a scan
except maybe for things that were there before you installed it.
When you right clicked the file, it was scanning it.

It only scanned a file when I chose that option in the right click menu. If I doubled clicked on a file to open it, It would just hang (the file)would take anywhere from 30 sec to 2 minutes to open. Same with quick launch programs. I was'nt trying to scan anything.

Thanks for all the trouble shooting help to all that responded, but I went with Avast. No problems at all. Guess for whatever reason my rig did'nt like F-Secure, which is a shame cause I liked it! Oh well, no more problems!
