I have to agree....works great,a while ago,I switched to F-Prot 3.12 due to updating problems with F-Secure and I'm happy with it..
Hi M8. IMO you have changed to a solution not as good as the one you had. F-Prot is, as you mentioned an old and well proved AV program. However F-Secure is the main solution these days. It has the same engine but not in all parts. I think you know of the two other engines used in F-Secure.
Another thing missing in this old program is the way it perform the protection. F-Secure is unique from all other apps. Looks very simple, few settings, no need for manual scans etc. But it´s what you don´t see you should have. I have used F-Secure for some years now and I love it. And I have all other major AV apps in my soft collection...for share only...but I have tried them all. And they all fail in some way. Characteristic for all is the GUI. Nice look and a lot of settings. Common is also serveral ways to protect eg. E-Mail protection. At a first glance all this means advanced and very safe. IMO this is not truth. You don´t need all this to be safe. You use a lot of system recources unnecessarily.
Well this is my opinion. Now to your problem. What version id you use? Retail or Try&Buy? If you have the Retail version there should be no problems to udate. I do this every second day. I use the built in updator.
And even if this feature fail you can get the update from F-Secure support site. No restrictions what so ever.
Try to re-install. And if you have a trial version let me know and I have the real one...
