extract mpeg2 from vob ?

hi all !

i've made a dvd from some private dv/video footage. but a friend of mine in the usa can't view the dvd, cause the dvd got a rc (region code) for europe only. that was my fault during authoring the dvd.

so i need to burn the dvd again. but i havn't got the "original" mpeg2 files any more. i only got the iso (or the video_ts folder/vob files).

as far as is understand the thing: the rc (region code) is part of the vob file. so i have to rip to vob files again.

but i don't want to make a divx/svcd etc. and burn it to cd-r. i just want to burn a dvd again. therefore i don't want to encode/re-encode the video/audio data again.

so: is there a way / a tool to extract the "original" mpeg2 file from the vob files?

thx in advance for any help !

There are tools like DVDDecrypter that help you getting rid of the region code. Ripping your DVD using DVDDecrypter would even spare you to re-author your DVD.
But what about PAL and NTSC? As far as I know the USA standard is NTSC. If your files were PAL encoded you would have to do a frame-rate conversion which is not an easy job. I've never had satisfying results when doing a frame-rate conversion, but I know it can be done with TmpgEnc, for instance.

Hope this helps you.

As Billie said, rip the DVD with SmartRipper or DVDDEcryptor to your HD and make sure you select to remove Region info and re-burn back to a DVDR

99% of all DVD players will play a PAL or NTSC encoded movie, you may need to change some settings in the DVD Players setup though to match your TV, thats all.
