explorer.exe crashes win2k

hope someone can help.


i'm running win2k sp4 and have been for a while now, about a month ago i suddenly started getting crashes when trying to delete avi files also when running gspot so i think it's got some thing to with avi's?

the crashes happen in windows explorer when i try to delete avi files also when right hand clicking and using open with "gspot" as it's loading the avi info it gives the fatal exploerer has generated errors and will terminate problem.

i'm presuming it's down to a badly installed codec of something like that as it only seems to happen on avi files.

has anyone else had this problem did you solve it if so how?

is there an app that will tell me if my codes are present and correctly installed?


please help cause evrytime it crashes i loose all icons in the taskbar and it's getting to be a real pain

I had dodgy explorer activity after installing SP4 (upgrade from SP3). Went back to SP2 and am much happier.

Surely sounds like a flaky codec.

The help was great but still is there a prog that can confirm that my codcs are installed correctly and working. i need to know if i have any conflicting codecs.
