error message in windows media player

Don't know if someone can help me on this one but whenever I rip a dvd to a vcd and try to play the final thing it works fine on a standalone dvd player, but wont work at all in windows media player.....
The programs i use are smartripper followed by DVD2AVI followed by TMPGenc then Nero to create the final vcd, now when my friend does this using the exact same process his work fine so I am at a complete loss as to explain it,
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

What version of WMP are you using? Can you get WMP to actually see the AVSEQ01.DAT file and load it in, or is where the problem lies. When trying to load it in you need to change File Type to All Files (*.*) to be able to see the file. Then it should play everytime.

wma

i know that i need to do that to get it to play because thats how we play them usually but for some reason when i open the avseq1.dat file it starts to say media changing but then comes up with the message file forma not supported, i find this starnge because with my friends vcd's it works.
By the way , i am using windows media version 7.01.00.3055.
would it help if i reduced the burning speed do you think?
Thanks.

Windows media player is buggy in many respects. Often it can't playback many materials it plays often.
Suggest you just try it with another type of player (WinDVD/PowerDVD, etc...) and see if the same things occurs. If they playback fine with them, then it's just that WMP/WMA is screwy as usual.

Good luck

Hey Spider i've had the same problem with mplayer 7. What u gonna have to do is get an Mpeg 2 codec or u can the Elecard player on h**p://www.elecard.com/download/. It is a Demo version but i should have the crack somewhere. Let me no if u want it. Or u can download the Nimo Codec pack that should allow mplayer to work here's the addy for the codecs: h**p://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/

Hope it works out 4 u

oh well

thanks for all the help guys
it works fine on both win dvd and power dvd but still not media player......BUT......i have overcome this problem by simply burning the MPG file straight into a cdrom rather than a vcd which seems to have worked.thanks anyhow and if i get stuck again you'll no doubt hear from me soon
