Just thought I would let everyone of a sneaky thing that Epson have done with there Printers.
They have built something into there Printer that when the ink pad reaches a level inside or a counter reaches a number the Printer stops working.
The Printer comes up with a message saying “Unknown error return to your dealer”. The dealer will then charge you £30+ to (a) put a new ink pad in (b) reset the counter.
They deny this by the way!
This has happened to me BUT
I have now found that you do not need to pay Epson anything at all.
All you have to do is:
(A) Move the colour ink cartridge to the replace position. You can the get at the ink pad with a paper cloth to soak up any ink.
(B) Download this program www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml that will reset your counter.
And hey presto the printer works again fine.
I have got a Epson 580 but I do believe it is the same on other.
More details at:

I hope this help others out there and stops Epson ripping people off.
