I've only had limited experience of this software, but I found it quite efficient and reliable working with avi files but slow and a bit flaky when working with mpgs....it really depends on what you intend to use it for.....maybe someone else here has tested more extensively and may be able to give you more of an insight.
Only real use is for converting RealMedia RM files to AVI. Anything else, forget it.
