England gripped by Cricket fever

With the first sniff of a major England team trophy in any event for years, even people who've never followed cricket before are getting behind the England team.

I hope we get enough goals :p

Seriously though, all out for 373 is not a great start, and too early in the second day to be on target for a draw... time for England fans to start the rain dance, as a draw will be enough.

With the Aussies now standing at 112 not out (stopped for bad light), the scoring looks bad for an England win, but the timing is looking better for a draw.

In the 4th day's progress, the Aussies are continuing their first innings, currently standing at 338 for 5, after being at 277 for 2 overnight.

Looking even more set for the draw that England need, and the only "man of the match" for England will be the WEATHERMAN!

... In other sporting news (F1), Renault's Fernando Alonso could secure the driver's trophy this weekend, if he can finish with 4 points more than McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen.
The team trophy is still wide open between those two teams, and looks like going dow to the wire - the only real excitement in a season notable only for for excessive rule changes, problems with the whole race tyres, and of course, the Indianapolis fiasco!

It's time the teams got together, kicked out the current F1 authorities, and raced under rules that promote safety and entertain the fans.

Oh no, Flintoff out for just 8!

With a miserable 127 for 5 at lunch, it's looking like England may need another intervention by the weather, to save them snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

The last day, and the stakes are high...

If England can keep the innings going, slow but safe, and bat the day out - the match is a draw, they win the series 2:1.

If England can set a total that the Aussies can't beat in the time left, they get the draw they need.

It looks, however, like it will be down to England's bowlers, to protect the total set by the batsmen, unless the latter half of the lineup can score slowly but surely.

Cricket isn't exactly exciting, but a nerve-wracking second innings is NOT the kind of excitement the England fans wanted.

It's a good thing you people are at last winning a sport against your former colonies :p The football results are disappointing. Sven-Goran Eriksson's love life is more interesting than his game-plan, Beckham's hair style better than his legs, Rooney (whom Eriksson and some journalists dared to compare to Pele during the Euro Championship in Portugal) says more **** you's to Beckham than scores goals and the pathetic Owen can't even return to his old club (Will they never learn from past English footballers who have seaked their fortune in Europe?). Are you surprised the English are all turning to cricket to regain their national pride? :D :p

Cricket is the new Football - and it seems for the next few weeks, according to insurance company reports, that you're more likely to get a window broken by a cricket ball than a football.

I believe England were also "extreme ironing" champions at one time. http://www.extremeironing.com/

The year 2005 didn't happen when the "Ashes" are discussed in this home for wayward sportsfans.
2005 DID NOT happen! What's so hard about understanding that?

Just joshing fellow sports fans...you're right though Viper....a tremendous series.

And the result would have been in our favour if that Brit Harpy hadn't worn poor old Warnie out the night before.
I read that she "just closed her eyes and thought......of England". ;)
