Conversion problem?
I have been following Chickenman's awesome tutorials for some time now, and have been successfully converting DivXs to VCD.
I recently tried to convert a DivX to VCD but TMPGEnc stopped at 11% conversion??
I discovered with "DivFix" that an AVI(div3 DivX) I downloaded had some corrupt frames, although these frames occurred much later in the DivX?
Anyway, I used CM's recommendation as I have successfully done before, and saved the AVI to AVI:
1. I scanned the DivX with VirtualDubMod
2. Selected "Mask bad frames"
3. Selected Compression/Xvid, and set the bitrate to 1600.
4. Resaved as AVI
Then the strangest thing happened. As it was going to take about 7 hours, I turned my monitor off and let it do it's thing. After about 15 minutes I noticed that it had stopped converting as I wasn't seeing any hard drive activity???
When I turned the monitor back on, it would resume encoding, except that now the time to finish had increased???...hmmmmmmm
Anyway, I stopped the 'resave' and viewed the partially saved AVI, only to notice that it was extremely 'jerky' and the audio sync was right out of whack!!!..WTF??!!!
So I have two questions:
1. Why would TMPGEnc stop at 11%(which I had tried 3 times, and everytime it stopped at 11%), when the currupt frames are much later in the movie?
2. What's the AVI to AVI 'resave' problem, both with VirtualDubMod and the monitor thing??
BTW, I have APM(Auto Power management) all turned off!!
Sorry for the long post but I'm tearing my hair out here!!!

UPDATE:
I managed to get another copy of the AVI with NO errors!!
While I would like to resolve the afore mentioned problems, my brain hurts enough as it is, so I will just convert this nice, new AVI
....think I might try KVCD, although I don't see anything about it on these forums??
Thanks again
