Enabling slower speeds with Lite-On LTR52246S

I have a Lite-On LTR52246S CD-writer. It only seems to let me write CD-s at a minimum speed of 4x.
Is there a way to get slower speeds (2x or even 1x) with it? Would some newer firmware help?

Thanks,

It's probably inadvisable to write current media at <4x anyway.
With the effort that goes into getting usable performance for speeds of up to 48x-52x, the quality at lower speeds is not an issue they bother much with.

Consensus seems to be that there is no current media which is really good at very low speeds, so the quality does not improve.

Got an LTR48246S which will write at x2 ,I almost never go that slow usually x16 + never had problems.

You could upgrade the firmware (wont do no harm), Always keep mine up to date, The last Firmware update i got was only to improve overburn capability.

How is the LTR52246S ? I didnt fancy that one , does it actually write at x52 ? I couldnt find a blank cd that supports it !!

@spider

LTR52246S are great, and yes they do burn at 52x with Verbatim media altough the disc are not certified to do so but they do great.

The LTR48246S and the LTR52246S are almost the exact same hardware and the LTR48246S can be turned to a LTR52246S with a firmware update to make it burn at 52X, of course this may void your warranty, if you want to know more check at cdfreaks for more info.
